Melvern G. Schoonover, age 69, of Neodesha, Kansas died Saturday, April 27, 2002 at the Wilson County Hospital in Neodesha, Kansas.

The son of John and Erma (Hallbauer) Schoonover, was born April 14, 1933 in Neodesha, Kansas.

He married Betty Arnold and they would later divorce. On November 7, 1968 He married Bernadette Bailly in Miami, Oklahoma.

Melvern built two houses in Neodesha, Kansas where he resided with his beloved family and bride.

He was a welder and brakeman for Berwind Railway, retiring on May 5, 1995. He also worked for Imco as a welder and forklift operator for ten years.

He was a softball and baseball coach for his children. He served as President of the A & H Fair and was a member of the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene.

He loved gardening, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Erma Schoonover; brother Loren Schoonover; and sisters Barbara Craig Reynolds, and Lorene McKenzie.

Survivors include his wife Bernadette of the home, three daughters Diana Drake of Riverton, KS; Kimberly Schell of Independence, KS, and Amanda Daniels of Neodesha, KS; three sons Gary Schoonover of Wichita, KS, William Schoonover of Neodesha, KS, and Christopher Schoonover of Neodesha, KS; five sisters Betty Harshman of Altoona, KS, Arlene Busick of Parsons, KS, Mary Ann Dannels of Altoona, KS, Theta Devoe of Fredonia, KS, and Sheila Kaufman of Neodesha, KS; two brothers Carl Schoonover of Chanute, KS, and Duane Schoonover of Braman, OK; grandchildren Casey, Dustin and Summer Drake, Geoffrey and Julie Schoonover, Tabatha, Kayla, and Ashley Schoonover, Preston Schoonover and Samantha Busby; and great grandchild Kyler Schoonover.

Funeral Services will be May 1, 2002 at the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Dale Coble officiating. Burial will follow in the Ross Cemetery, Wilson County, Kansas, under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home.

The family has suggested memorial to the W. A. Rankin Memorial Library.
