Edwin Milton Burkhart was a son of Raymond Sanderson Burkhart (1817-1888), the eldest son of John and Rebecca Burkhart. His father, Raymond, and mother, Eliza Jane (Wassom) Burkhart (1822-1862), had five sons who lived to adulthood and were given portions of their father's original land claim in the Albany/Lebanon area from 1847 as they reached maturity. Edwin, who was b.Oct 10, 1859, loved farming and was good at it, raising crops and building a house on his own land. He met and fell in love with Minerva R.Curl (b.Sep 22, 1862) from Scio, Linn County, and they married on Nov 15, 1885. They were blessed with six children, two daughters and four sons:
Adria S.,b.1887, Elmer Francis,b.1888, Adeline V.,b.1891, Wilbur Wassom,b.1893, Cecil Jonathan,b.1900, and Wallace Milton,b.1903. His sons and daughters all lived at home until they married or had their own parcels of land. In mid 1920, only Cecil and Wallace were still living at home, helping out as Edwin was now 60. He died on Oct 2nd, 1920, just 8 days before his 61st birthday from heart disease. He was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Albany, Linn County, OR. His wife, Minerva, mourned his loss greatly and moved into town to live with her son, Wallace, who worked for the bank and had moved to 529 E.3rd, Albany. She stayed there for just over nine years, passing from this life on Oct 19, 1929, just a month after her 67th birthday (Sep 22, 1929). She was laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Albany's Riverside Cemetery.
