Mrs. Frances Hetherington, who has been a resident of this city for over 35 years, passed away at her home, corner of Elm and Eighth Streets, Friday, January 27, 1911. aged 70 years, 9 months and 15 days. Frances Longbottom was born on April 12, 1840, in England and came to America with her parents when she was but 12 years old. The family first settled in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania and there she was united in marriage to Thomas Hetherington in 1856. Her husband preceded her to the Better Land December 11, 1882. The family moved to Washingtonville, Ohio in 1870 and in they came to Fairbury. Mrs. Hetherington was the mother of 12 children, 7 of whom are living: Mrs. Eames of Oregon, John and Mrs. Robert Hornsby Sr of Fairbury, Jonathan of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Hugh Easton, Edward and Will of Fairbury. Besides these, 4 brothers survive: John Henry Longbottom, Thomas Longbottom and Jonathan Longbottom of Washingtonville, Ohio and Edward Longbottom of Fairbury. Mrs. Hetherington was a woman who was loved by her family, her friends and her neighbors. Of pleasant disposition, she made friends of those around her. Her life was a useful one. She was always ready to do a kindness for those around her and she will be greatly missed and deeply mourned by all who knew her. She was a kind and loving mother and her children whom she leaves behind have the sympathy of all. She had been in poor healthfor two months previous to her death, suffering from heart trouble, asthma and dropsy. The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, February 1, at 3 O'Clock from the family home. Rev. E. S. Wilson Officiating and were largely attended. Jonathan Hetherington, son of the deceased arrived from Californa to attend the services. The remains were laid to rest in the Fairbury cemetery.
