The Rev. Elmer Donald Riggs of Bedford died Wednesday, January 21, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 2, 1910, the son of John H. and Anna (Davis) Riggs. He married J. Mariene Denbo and she survives. Also surviving are three sons: Dr. Donald Riggs of Greenwood, John Riggs of Bloomfield, and David Riggs of Oolitic; two daughters: Yvonne Sandefur of Bedford and Deidra Pitman of Lafayette; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Josie Taylor, Sadie Funkhouser, Henrietta Ferguson, and Jessie Beeler; and two brothers: John and Harold Riggs. He was a retired minister, serving the Free Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He pastored churches in Boswell, Kokomo, Evansville, Bedford, Bloomington, Anderson, Los Angeles, CA, and Artesia, CA. He was active for 50 years in Kiwanis. He was also active with Boy Scouts, Red Cross and Youth for Christ. Services for the Rev. Elmer Riggs will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25th, at the Bloomington Free Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Cloud officiating. Interment will follow in Valhalla Mausoleum in Bloomington.
