Broeckert, Edward (Jan. 16, 1886-Nov. 8, 1957 –husband of Clara Gutman [married June 4, 1912 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of Frederick Broeckert and Katherine Loos [Frederick and Katherine were married in 1872 and were buried at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Kiel –Frederick born March 4, 1847 at Ditmarschen, Holstein, Germany {also shown as Hassenbuttel, Holstein, Germany} and died in Town of Schleswig on Nov. 30, 1916 –Frederick was the son of Liebert Broeckert {1821-1875}and Maria Osterman –immigrated to America in 1867 –Frederick’s parents, Liebert and Maria, immigrated to the US in 1868 and purchased land in the Town of Schleswig –Frederick first lived in the Town of New Holstein, Calumet County but, in 1873, purchased the farm of his father-in-law {Mathias Loos} in the Town of Schleswig –Katherine nee Loos Jan. 16, 1847-Oct. 19, 1903 –daughter of Matthias Loos and Maria Mueller –born Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany] –born Town of Schleswig –blacksmith who owned his own shop –“Edward Broeckert, who at 71 years of age still operated his own blacksmith shop and thus was the oldest businessman in St. Nazianz, died suddenly of a heart attack…. On Feb. 22, 1911 he moved to St. Nazianz, where he established and operated his blacksmith business ever since.” –on May 14, 1913 purchased the house at 105 East Birch Street in St. Nazianz –Edward lived in this house until his death in 1957 –his widow Clara lived here until her death in 1966 –died from “coronary thrombosis –hypertension”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 4, Row 6, Lot 23] [marriage record Manitowoc 10-597] [death record Manitowoc 51-344]

Edward Broeckert, who at 71 years of age still operated his own blacksmith shop and thus was the oldest businessman in St. Nazianz, died suddenly of a heart attack at St. Nazianz Friday afternoon.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1886, in the Town of Schleswig, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Broeckert. On Feb. 22, 1911, he moved to St. Nazianz where he established and operated his blacksmith business ever since. On June 4, 1912, he was married to Clara Gutman at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in St. Nazianz.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held at St. Gregory's Catholic Church at St. Nazianz at 9:30 Monday morning, following brief services at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home at Kiel. The Rev. Denis Cooney wil be the celebrant of the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home from 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon until time of services. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7:30 and 8 o'clock Sunday night.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Norbert (Hilaria) Seipel, of Chilton, Sister M. Roman, O.S.F., of Waupun, and Mrs. Andrew (Imelda) Scharenbrock, of Sheboygan; five sons, Rembert, Arthur, Edward Jr. and Roman, all of St. Nazianz, and Bernard, of Manitowoc; one brother, William, of Kiel; and 13 grandchildren. He was precede in death by one son and two sisters.
