Funeral services for Reuben Harpt, 50, prominent Mishicot businessman
and former teacher, who died of a heart attack at Two Rivers Municipal
Hospital at 8 a.m. Friday, and who has been in failing health for some
time, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Mishicot, the Rev. E. A. Breiling, pastor of Our Saviors Lutheran
Church, Two Rivers, officiating. Burial will be in the Mishicot Public
Cemetery.
Reuben Harpt was born in the Town of Gibson, March 11, 1908, a son of
the late Emil and Mary Cordes Harpt. He attended the Maple View district
school at Zander and was graduated from Mishicot High School with the
class of 1924. Later, he attended the Manitowoc County Normal School and
for 20 years taught at Zander Branch and the graded school in the village
of Mishicot, during which time he was also engaged as an insurance under-
writer. Several years ago he established a real estate business with the
insurance agency.
For two terms Mr. Harpt represented the village of Mishicot on the Manitowoc
County Board of Supervisors, retiring in 1956. He was also a member of the
Mishicot Lions Club.
Mr. Harpt married the former Clara Wanek at Manitowoc Feb. 6, 1936, who
preceded him in death three years ago.
Surviving are a son, (private) and two brothers, Omar of Manitowoc and
Harvey of the Town of Gibson. A brother, Roland Harpt, Mishicot postmaster,
preceded him in death 13 years ago.
Friends may call at the Specht Funeral Home, Mishicot, after 2 p.m. Saturday
until 11 a.m. Sunday when the casket will be taken to the church where the
body will be in state until the time of services.
