Mildred Ella (Fallwell) Gabriel is the daughter of Cecil E.C. Fallwell and Hazel Hester (Sims) Fallwell. She was the 2nd child born to this family of nine children. Mildred was an awesome woman and was loved by all who knew her. Her only child, Barbara Lorene Johns, was stillborn and Mildred is buried next to her baby. Mildred loved children and was a fun and loving aunt to all of her nieces, nephews, and many children of friends & neighbors. She was a wonderful sister to her brothers and sisters and was a terrific friend to all who knew her. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and is eternally in Heaven with Him.

Mildred died in the home of her sister, Mary Ellen (Fallwell) McCoy (now Henderson) in Eufaula (Longtown), Oklahoma in Pittsburg County.

Mildred was married several times and all of her husbands are now deceased. Her husbands were:

Willie Sam "Buddy" Johns - m. 29 May 1944, Oklahoma City, Okla. County, Okla.
Forrest Benjamin "Ike" King - m. 31 Jan 1947, Oklahoma City, Okla. County, Okla.
Charles James "Chuck" Fitzpatrick - m. 13 Aug 1952, Miller County, Arkansas
Clarence Lewis "Jack" Culwell - m. Abt. 1958
Frank Gabriel, Jr. - m. 29 Dec 1989, Reno, Washoe County, Nevada

For whatever reason, my brother decided to have Mildred's maiden name placed on her headstone! I suppose he couldn't decide which of her husband's names to put on there. The absolute love of her life was her fourth husband, Jack Culwell. Jack & Mildred were married about 23 years before he died on her birthday on 13 April 1981, which was extremely difficult for her to deal with. They adored one another. I had the privilege of living near them for several years in Portland, Oregon when my children were growing up. Their Uncle Jack & Aunt Mildred showered love on them just like grandparents. (Mildred never could have children again after the stillborn birth of her little Barbara.) I thank God for the many years that Mildred & Jack were in our lives. We miss them both so very much.

I was sorting through some old papers from 2004 and found this that my daughter Karen Diane (Lieber) Smith wrote the day after her aunt Mildred passed away. She is an R.N. and helped me take care of Mildred when I brought her home from the hospital just 4 days before she died. This brought tears to my eyes of that night, not so very long ago, that my dear sweet sister departed from this earth to her eternal reward. This brought me much comfort then as well as it does now as I still miss my sister.

As I was driving home from my mother's home, I began to think about all that had happened May 4, 2004 at 11:58 p.m. As I thought, I began to realize the Lord was helping me to find understanding of it all.

I thought of my Aunt Mildred as she was taking her last few breaths of her life on this earth. I could see her standing before a ship along the dock she was standing on. I believe it was the same ship Uncle Boyd saw Grandma (Fallwell) aboard when she went to be with Jesus. Aboard that ship was Grandma calling to Mildred and waving her to come aboard. Mildred was extremely happy but also unsure she should leave all her loved ones still on earth. They were all very worried about her. She told Grandma she didn't want to leave everyone behind. She said, "Look Mama, I have Mary and Karen right here!" My mother and I were holding Mildred's hands trying to comfort her during her last few moments. She then clenched both our hands with all the strength she could find in her ill and frail body. She looked so confused as if she didn't know what to do. Mildred said, "Oh, my! Mama what should I do?" Grandma said, "Come on, Mildred, they will all come soon enough. The Lord God has it perfectly planned. Hurry, everyone is waiting for you. We want to take you to Jesus!" I then heard my mother begin to speak the twenty-third Psalm with a voice so commanding I knew it was from God. When my mother saw her sister's puzzled look Mom told her, "It's okay. Go see Daddy, Mama, Barbara and Jack, It's okay. We all love you." Then Mildred released our hands very easy and no longer appeared puzzled. Mildred boarded the ship with Grandma and they sailed to the other side of the ocean. Everyone was waiting for her ashore. When she got ashore, she was so happy and everyone was rejoicing. Mildred heard the voice of my Daddy (Dan Lieber). She looked up and saw him a ways down the shoreline. He was fishing and smiling. He and Jack had stringers full of fish. Daddy told Mildred how great the fishing is in heaven.

When Mildred saw Jesus, she prayed to him to send the Great Comforter to all her loved ones that loved and missed her. Jesus then sent the Holy Spirit to all of us. Mildred said, 'Thank you, Jesus!' At that moment I realized the Holy Spirit was comforting me. Thank you, Jesus!"

Note from Mary Ellen: The night Mildred passed from this earthly life to eternal life was amazing. It was actually a beautiful thing that God allowed us to be a part of. I remember Karen and I standing on either side of Mildred's bed holding her hands. Mildred had been in a coma for 2 or 3 days and had not opened her eyes or spoken to us. I remember quoting the 23rd Psalm so loudly that I felt someone else was speaking through me, as it did not seem to be me doing speaking. I remember Mildred clenching our hands to her chest and speaking to us with a look of "should I stay or go". I then remember telling her to go on and then she relaxed and drew her last few breaths two minutes before midnight on May 4th. I didn't understand what all had just happened, but I knew it was more than I could see. I felt God and angels all around us. It was a powerful night. I'm so glad that God revealed to Karen what was going on in the spiritual that night...things we could not see. God is so amazing and so good.
