The daughter of (Unknown) Hammer and Maria Agnes Hammer, Wilhelmine was born in Halle Stadt, Westphalia, Prussia. She was baptized in a protestant church there on 01 Apr 1838.

Wilhelmine lived in St. Louis, Missouri around the time the American Civil War ended. It was there that she met a young widower named Henry Meseke. He was a German immigrant whose first wife and child had been lost during the war.

Henry and Wilhelmine were married on 09 Dec 1866 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Louis (city), Missouri. He had been a teamster, driving a wagon for a living when he first arrived in the United States in the 1850's, and had been promoted to Wagoner while serving his new country in the army. During the hard times that followed the war between the states, Henry found work hauling garbage in the city.

Two girls, Emma and Louise, were born in St. Louis before the Meseke family moved to Illinois. Henry and Wilhelmine bought a farm and built a home in Calhoun County where two more girls, Annie and Caroline, were born. The Meseke's last child, a son named Louis Henry Meseke, was born there in 1874.

At the time of her death, Wilhelmine was 70 years, 8 months and 20 days old.

She was survived by her husband, Henry; 4 daughters and 3 sons-in-law; 1 son and 1 daughter-in-law; 13 grandsons and 4 granddaughters; and 1 sister-in-law, Emilie Schoper.

In addition to her mother and father, Wilhelmine was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Wilhelmene Kinder and George Kinder.
