The second son of Franz Wilhelm "Frank" Willenburg and Mary Alice Kinder, Louis was born and raised in Calhoun County, Illinois.

He was a life-long farmer and helped his mother and brother, Albert, run the family farm after Frank Willenburg died in 1900. Louis never married.

At the time of his death at Alton Memorial Hospital, Louis was 75 years, 2 months and 9 days old. He was survived by 3 sisters, Tillie Meseke and Bertha Fredrickson of Golden Eagle, and Dena Brands of St. Louis County, Missouri.

Louis was buried next to his mother following 2 p.m. funeral services at St. Matthew Lutheran Church on 08 Nov 1945.
