The son of Charles Henry "Charlie" Kinder and Caroline Amelia Meseke, Elmer had a fraternal twin sister named Carrie.

Elmer married Leona Krause on 26 Oct 1950 in Waterloo, Monroe County, Illinois. He was a farmer and member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels, Calhoun, County, Illinois.

At the time of his death, Elmer was 88 years and 10 days old. He was survived by 1 sister, Emma; and 1 brother, Fred.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; 2 sisters, Wilhelmene and his twin, Carrie; and 5 brothers, George, Paul, Walter, Carl and Art Kinder.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on 08 May 1996 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Brussels. Funeral services were conducted at St. Matthew Lutheran Church the following morning at 11 a.m. Elmer was buried next to his wife, Leona, who passed away in 1995.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the church or South Calhoun County Ambulance Service.
