Mary Ann Keller was born April 14, 1893 at Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, the 5th child of 11 born to John and Margaret (Sauer) Keller. She grew up on the family farm in the Foxholm, North Dakota area. She married Cornelius Gruntjes on February 10, 1923. They had one child, Ellen. The couple farmed in the Carrington area until 1955 when they retired and moved to Carrington.
