Grant U. Long, 81, former policeman of Wabash, died Sunday evening at 8:45 o'clock in his home, 180 Manchester avenue. Mr. Long had been bedfast for two and a half years and suffered a second stroke three weeks ago.
He was born seven miles north of Wabash, Nov. 16, 1865 and farmed until he moved to Wabash 33 years ago. He served on the police force for four years and was employed by the city until his health failed.
He was the son of Samuel and Marjory (Richards) Long and was married April 29, 1888 to Matilda Amber, north of Wabash.
Survivors include the widow; the following children, Kenneth and Robert Long, Wabash, Donald, California, Mrs. Leroy Kramer, Mrs. Walter Hettmansperger and Mrs. Clifford Hipskind, Wabash, Mrs. Carl Elbel and Mrs. Hugh Altman, Peru, Mrs. Hiel Miller and Mrs. Robert Whidden, Roann; a brother, Irvin Long, Wabash; one sister, Mrs. Dan Deardorf, Lafayette; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Hoyte Summerland, preceded him in death.
The decedent was a member of the Christian Church and the Rev. Ralston Brock, pastor of the church, will conduct the services which will be held in the Jones Funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Falls cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
