Added by BL Hughes: As Dr. Burns was about to put his horse in the stable Wednesday evening, the animal slipped and fell, knocking the Doctor and landing on top of him. In struggling to rise the horse struck the Doctor with one of his iron shoes just above the knee, bruising him badly and causing him a number of hours of acute pain. Thursday noon he limped down to the depot and took a train for Boston The Plymouth Record, February 25, 1888, p5.
