Dr.William A.Dixon,for nearly 40 years a practicing physician in Decatur,died at 5:15 o'clock Friday morning in his home, 331 N.Edward street. He was 65 years old. Death was caused by diabetes.
William A.Dixon was born in Vinton, county Ohio,Dec.1,1865. He came to Illinois with his parents in 1875,the family settling near Sullivan. Later they moved to Hammond.
Mr.Dixon taught schools in his youth, studying medicine meanwhile. He finished his medical course in 1892 and began practicing in Decatur. He also established the first drug store in the Gebhart block.
Dr.Dixon and Miss Anna Kirby were married April 22,1896. She died May 19,1918 in the Masonic home of Sullivan. Dr.Dixon a prominent Mason was superintendent of the home at the time.
Dr.Dixon following the death of his first wife, returned to Decatur and again began practicing medicine. He formed a partnership with the late Dr.N.D.Myers.
Dr. Dixon was married to Miss Katharine Reisinger on Jan. 1, 1920. The doctor was a member of the First Methodist church and also was past master of Macon lodge,No 8, AF&AM. He belonged to several other masonic lodges. At one time was was county physician.
Dr.Dixon leaves his widow,a brother and two sisters,all of Decatur. The brother is C.A.Dixon and the sisters are Mrs.E.Bolen and Mrs Della Kincaid.
The body was taken to the Brintlinger funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the First Methodist church. Burial with Masonic rites under the auspices of Macon lodge will be in Long Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at Brintlinger's until funeral time.
