Mrs. John Anker Is Dead
Passed Away Tuesday Morning After A Lingering Illness.
Mrs. John Anker died Tuesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Anker, Sr., four miles west and two miles north of Cass City, after a lingering illness from cancer.
Mary Ellen Higgins was born in Canada on February 9, 1863, and when very young came with her parents to Michigan. They made their home in Elmwood township near Gagetown. At the age of twenty-four she was united in marriage to John Anker, who also resided in Elmwood township, and a few years later they removed to Cass City, where Mr. Anker was interested in the jewelry business with J.F. Hendrick as a partner.
Ten years ago Mr. and Mrs. Anker went to Duluth where Mr. Anker engaged in the lumbering business.
They remained there until about two years ago when Mrs. Anker's health began to fail. Relief was sought immediately and no pains spared to restore her health, but of no avail, and a few months ago she came to Elmwood township to spend her remaining days with her mother, Mrs. Mary Higgins. Besides her mother she leaves four sisters, Mrs. L. Ormsby of Wells, Delta county; Mrs. J. McConkey of Elmwood; Mrs. J.F. Hendrick and Mrs. A. Wickware of this place; and two brothers, John Higgins of Elmwood and J.W. Higgins of Rochester.
The funeral services were held in the M.E. church at this place on Thursday at three o'clock, Rev. Jas. W. Fenn officiating and the remains laid to rest in Elkland cemetery.
