Margaretha Wendel Chilton Times May 7, 1910

One of the saddest deaths that The Times has been called on to record in some time occurred at Trinity hospital at Milwaukee on Sunday evening last when Mrs. Michael Wendel of East Brothertown passed away. Mrs. Wendel was taken ill on Friday last with a severe attack of appendicitis and on Saturday was conveyed to Trinity hospital where she was operated upon Saturday evening. Sunday morning she seemed better and there was no alarm about her condition, but later in the day, however, she began to fail and in the evening of that day passed to the other world. The remains were brought to the home, which had in a short time been changed from sunshine to gloom, on Monday and on Wednesday the funeral took place from the Catholic Church at Charlesburg, Rev. Fr. N. L. Thelen conducting the services and a large crowd of mourning relatives and friend being present to pay their last tribute to a good wife, mother and woman.
Eight children were made motherless by this sudden death, the oldest ten years and the youngest three months. To add to grief of the already sorely afflicted household, on Tuesday the husband was stricken with the same disease which terminates so fatally with his wife and he was conveyed to St. Agnes' hospital at Fond du Lac where he was operated upon Tuesday night. A telephone message from there to Charlesburg, Wednesday morning about the time his wife was being laid away in the silent grave, told that Mr. Wendel was resting easy and will recover. It is hard to realize the depth of the affliction that has befallen this family and time alone can alleviate their sorrow.
Margaret Vollmer was born in the town of Addison, Washington County, June 18, 1878. In 1885 she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Vollmer to Brothertown and some eleven years ago was married to Michael Wendel. Eight children were born to them, all of whom survive her. In addition to her own bereft household she is survived by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
