EDWARD HOEFLER SR.

Edward J. Hoefler Sr., a retired Town of New Holstein farmer, died Sunday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital. He had been hospitalized seven weeks.

A son of the late George and Theresa Roeder Hoefler, he was born Aug. 17, 1892, on the farm about three miles west of Kiel where he spent his lifetime. He married Anna Hartmann, Feb. 21, 1916, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, St. Anna, following which the couple operated the home farm until taken over in recent years by their son, Edward Jr. Mrs. Hoefler died there in March, 1944. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Ann's Parish.

Surviving, in addition to the son, Edward Jr., are four other sons, Joseph and Lester of rural New Holstein, Herbert of Kiel and George of St. Anna; four daughters, Mrs. Ellsworth Buchmann (Veronica), Kiel, Mrs. Robert Koenig (Evelyn), rural Kiel, Mrs. Charles Grube (Mary), St. Anna, and Mrs. Ervin Koenig (Lucille), rural Newton; and 42 grandchildren. A son, Edmund, killed during World War II, and a brother preceded him in death.

The requiem Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Church, with the Rev. Benedict H. Marx, pastor, celebrant.
Mass will follow 9:30 family rites at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Tuesday. The St. Ann's Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary there at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
