The Marriage of Dr. Babcock and Miss Guion.

The Columbia Register says that the announcement of the marriage of Dr. James W. Babcock, of that city, and Miss Kate Guion, of Lincolnton, took Columbia by surprise. Dr. Babcock, it appears, is the superintendent of the South Carolina Lunatic Asylum, and his bride has been for some time sick nurse of the institution. The Register says: "Both are well known and well-liked among our people. While neither are native Columbians, no couple have more completely won the friendship and kind wishes of people than they."

Of the bride, (who is well know in Charlotte,) the paper quoted says: "She is noted for many lovable traits of character and is a favorite with all who know her."

MRS. BABCOCK'S FUNERAL HELD

Rites in Columbia For Sister of A. S. Guion, Contractor Of Charlotte.

GASTONIA, Aug. 17.--Mrs. Katherine Guion Babcock, 77, sister of Alec S. Guion, Charlotte contractor, and of Ben S. Guion, Gastonia automobile dealer, died last night at her home in Columbia, S. C., following an illness of 18 months. Funeral services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Columbia, at noon today and the body taken to Charlotte where interment was made at 6 o'clock this afternoon in the Guion family plot in Elmwood cemetery.

She was the widow of Dr. James W. Babcock, prominent Columbia physician who died about 20 years ago. She had lived there for the past 40 years or more. Mrs. Babcock was born in Lincolnton January 1, 1866, daughter of the late B. S. and Katherine Caldwell Guion.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robrt Merriweather, Mrs. Charles Simmons and Miss Ferebe Babcock, all of Columbia; five sisters, Mrs. F. E. McCombs, Mrs. S. D. Newton and Dr. Connie M. Guion, all of New York City; Miss M. J. Guion of West Alton, Mass., and Mrs. elmer Hunt of Berkeley, Calif., and two brothers, Ben S. Guion of Charlotte, and five grandchildren.
