Francis E. Nading was the fifth of seven known children of Joseph Nading (1811-1862) and Mary Rothrock (1812-1880), who married 30 Oct 1834 at the Lewisville Settlement, Stokes County (now Forsyth), North Carolina.

Francis first married to Mary Elizabeth McManaman (1844-1902) on 24 Sep 1865 at Lawrence County, Illinois. Francis and Mary were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. William Nading (1866-1899)
2. Wardell E. Nading (1867-1887)
3. Sarah Janette Nading Gorbet (1870-1924)
4. Thomas Nading (1872-1887)
5. Eliza Ellen Nading Jennings (1874-1960)
6. Laura Isabell Nading Gorbet (1879-1966)
7. Elizabeth Mary Nading Chamness (1882-1971)
8. Oscar Lawrence Nading (1884-1956)

In 1870 the family was living at Round Prairie Township, Wabash County, Illinois. In 1880 the family was living at Lancaster Precinct, Wabash County, Illinois. In 1900 Francis, Mary., Lizzie and Oscar were living at West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. Mary said she was the mother of eight children, five living, which agrees with the above listing.

After Mary died, Francis remarried to the widow Sabina Reeves Waters (1852-1911) on 11 Oct 1905 at Richland County, Illinois. In 1910 Francis, Sabina, Lizzie and Oscar were living at West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. In 1913 Francis was a teamster, living in West Salem. After Sabina died, Francis remarried to the widow Mary Whalen Johnson (1866-c1920/1926) on 06 Aug 1913 at West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. In 1920 Francis and Mary were living, alone, at Brazil, Clay County, Indiana. In 1922 Francis was still living at Brazil, Indiana. At the time of his death in 1926 Francis was listed as a widower, wife Mary. He was living with his daughter Lizzie Nading Chamness in Centralia, Marion County, Illinois. He had lived there four months. He died of bronchial tuberculosis, with senility as a contributing factor. It is not known where Sabina or his 3rd wife, Mary, are buried.
