_________

Afterh the death of her mother when she was 10 and her father when she was 14 she lived with various brothers and sisters, finally ending up in Washington County, Wisconsin with her sisters Lou-ize and Lucina.

After her marriage she lived in various places in Wisconsin, Minnesota and even Illinois before her husband, along with three small children went by trail to San Fransisco, up the coast line, to Portland, Oregon, up Columbia River and ended up first in the newly platted town of Goldendale, Washington Territory, They had a homestead and eventually due to her husband's health had to leave and moved down to Columbus, now Maryhill, Washington.

After her husband's death she remained there to raise her family. She was an excellent school teacher, wrote many poems.

She did remarry on 1 January 1887 to Francis Miller of Cliffs, Klickitat County, Washington. They only lived together a few weeks as he became abusive to her and her children. Upon hearing and seeing the results for himself, her son in law Lucius Clark personally escorted Mr. Miller off the property and told him NEVER to return. She washed her hands of him, but never went so far as to file for a divorce. She did transfer her holdings into the name of one of her sons to protect the property from Miller. She never set eyes on him again. In 1909 he filed for divorce from her on the grounds of "desertion." She made no reply to any court summons or anything. He did obtain the divorce.

She came from the Wendell's which were one of the founding Dutch families of Albany, New York.
