Robert John Ethridge, 67, churchman and farmer of the Piney Forest section, died at his home at 10:15 p.m. Monday. He had been in declining health for some time, but his death was unexpected.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Piney Forest Baptist Church. Officiating will be the pastor, the Rev. A. E. Fulmer, the Rev. B. L. Hill, a former pastor, and the Rev. Arthur Williams, pastor of Black River Baptist Church. Burial will be in Piney Forest Cemetery.

Mr. Etheridge was born in Georgetown County, August 22, 1885, a son of the late William Henry Ethridge and Julia Ann Howard Ethridge. As a young man he worked with the old Atlantic Coast Lumber Co., as a timber man. Then for a number of years, he had devoted his time to his farming interests. His home is located on the same tract of land where he was born, and Piney Forest Cemetery is part of it.

Mr. Etheridge was widely known as a successful farmer. The Progressive Farmer magazine carried articles on his farming on several occasions. he was a member of Piney Forest Baptist Church. He had served as superintendent of the Sunday School and at the time of his death, was senior warden of the church. He also was a former trustee of the old Big Dam School, which since has been consolidated with the Andrews School system.

Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Sarah Ann Taylor; four sons, Henry Clyde Etheridge, Walter Blease Ethridge, James Muldrow Ethridge, and Barney Robertson Ethridge, all of Andrews; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma E. Ray and Mrs. Flossie E. Powell, both of Andrews; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Ethridge and Harrison Ethridge, both of Andrews, and two sisters, Mrs. Susie Powell of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Aggie Browder of Sumter.
