Flossie Ethridge Powell Benton, 90, died Thursday, Dec 14, 2000, in Winyah Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Benton was born near Andrews on Aug 7, 1910, a daughter of the late Robert John Ethridge and Sarah Ann Taylor Ethridge.

She grew up in the Big Dam section of Georgetown County and lived all of her life in the Andrews area. Mrs. Benton was a former employee of Oneita Industries. She was a founding member of Black River Original Free Will Baptist Church, where Mrs. Benton wass a former member of the choir. She also attended Holy Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Mrs. Benton was the widow of Dallas LeRoy Powell and George Ray Benton. She was predeceased by a daughter, Hilda P. Nauart and two sons, Delbert L. Powell and Laurie R. Powell.

Surviving are a son, Ronnie L. Powell of Andrews; five daughters, Verna Lee P. Smith of Georgetown, Bertha P. Brannan of Hardwick, GA, Shirley P. Connelly of Andrews, Gladys P. Cannon of Surfside Beach, and Doris P. Marlowe of Pawley's Island; a sister, Thelma E. Ray of Andrews; two brothers, J. Muldrow Ethridge and Barnie R. Ethridge, both of Andrews; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and a number of great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Family Worship Center. Officiating will be the Rev. Murray W. Powell. Burial will follow in Piney Forest Cemetery under the direction of the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
