Statement in his pension record obtained from the National Archives:
"State of Missouri, County of Polk: On this 20th day of June, 1871 personaly (sic) appeared before me county clerk of Polk County having custody of the Official Seal and duly authorized to administer oaths for general purposes Allen Bridges age 79 years a resident of the County of Polk and State of Missouri who being duly sworn according to law declairs (sic) that he is maried (sic) that his wifes name was Sara Lindley to whom he was maried at Madison County, Illinois on the 27th day of August 1816 that he served the full period of sixty days in the Military Service of the United States in the war of 1812, that he is the identical Allen Bridges who enlisted in Captain Samuel Whiteside's Company Regt and Brigade not recalled on or about May 1, 1812 for three months and sometime in September 1812 he again enlisted for twelve months and served his time out and was honorably discharged both times but never got his discharge papers that he recollects of the service was performed in the State of Illinois. __________ the Indians the service was rendered from Madison County, Illinois north to the Illinois River and Salt Creek and Kickapoe Creek and that he at no time during the rebellion against the authority of the United States adheard to the course of the enemies of the government serving them aid and comfort or exercised the functions of any office whatever under any authority or pretended authority in hostility to the United States and that he will support the Constitution of the United States that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act approved February 14th 1871 and he hereby constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation W M Blasslain of Bolioas, Polk, County, Missouri his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim and procure the issuance of a pension certificate to him that his post office is at Humansville, Polk County, Missouri, that his attorney is to have Twenty Dollars for his services that his domicil or place of abode is Humansville, Missouri."
