William Eugene Knerr died May 24, 1994 in Vista, California. Bill was 96 years old. He was born on March 1, 1898 in Deer Park, St. Croix County, Wisconsin and was the third child born to Webster and Carrie (Krogh) Knerr.

Bill along with his 4 surviving siblings attended school in a one room school. Bill joined the Marines in 1917. His World War Draft card states that he was living in Deer Park, Wisconsin at the time and was processed in Hudson, Wisconsin. Bill served in the Marines as a welder during the war in Long Beach, California.

He married Adelaide Neitge on June 3, 1923 in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. Adelaide was also from the St. Croix County, Wisconsin area. To this union three children were born, Betty Lou (Frank ) Wigham of San Diego, California, Jeanne (Jack) Hilligoss of Alameda, California, William Knerr Jr. of San Diego, California. On Dec. 23, 1954, Adelaide passed away in Long Beach, California. They were married 31 years.

On May 26, 1956, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Mae Setter in Clark County, Nevada. They retired to the Vista, California area. Mae passed away on January 27, 1991 in Vista, California. They were married 35 years.

Bill loved to garden and had a wonderful vegetable and fruit garden.  He had macular degeneration due to the welding but still could drive his car late in life.

Bill was preceded in death by his wives Adelaide and Mae, his daughters Betty Lou in 1977 and Jeanne in 1975, and his siblings, Owen Christian, Owen Clarence, Victor Harry, Elsie Mary (Scottie) Rudesill, and Milton.

He is survived by his son, William of San Diego, California; his sister Alice (Stanley) Birkel of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; three granddaughters, Laural Wigham (John) Beem, Heather Wigham (Ross) Carter and Ellen Wigham; great grandchildren Alexandra Beem and Sam Carter. Interment was next to Adelaide and Mae at the Green Hill Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County, California.
