Mrs. William Matthias
Mrs. William Matthias, 70, of Valders, collapsed and died suddenly Thursday evening while attending a band concert at Union Park in Manitowoc.
A heart attack was listed as the probable cause of death. A resident of Manitowoc County her entire life. Mrs. Matthias was born April 26. 1889, in the Town of Newton, a daughter of the late John and Louise Lemke Clasen.
Following her marriage on May 11, 1911. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Newtonburg, she and her husband operated a farm in the Town of Liberty, about four miles southeast of Valders, for 40 years.
Since her husband's death last March 5, Mrs. Matthias had been making her home with a daughter, Mrs. Robert Glaeser at Valders. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Liberty.
Survivors are three sons, Arland of R. 4. Manitowoc, Vilas of Madison, and Edward on the homestead farm. R. 1. Manitowoc; three daughters, Mrs. Armin Ewald of R. 1. Manitowoc, Mrs. Robert Lorfeld of Cleveland, and Mrs. Robert Glaeser, Valders: 28 grandchildren; two brothers. Adolph Clasen of R. 3 Manitowoc, and Herman Clasen Manitowoc. and a sister. Mrs Walter Kolb. R. 3. Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Liberty with the Rev. Samuel Kugler. pastor, officiating
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state a the Berge Funeral Home, Valders, from 3 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday, and at the church from Monday noon until the hour of services.
