William H. Matthias

William H. Matthias, 80, of R. 1, Manitowoc, a native of Sheboygan, died at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, Saturday.

He was born Feb. 26, 1880 in Sheboygan, the son of the late Henry and Marie (Siebert) Matthias. He was married May 11, 1911 to the former Marie Clasen at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Newtonburg.

He farmed in the Town of Liberty for more than 40 years, retiring in 1948. He was a trustee of the Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town ofLiberty for six years and a member of the Webster School Board for 25 years.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, Arland of R. 4, Manitowoc, Vilas of Madison and Edward on the home farm; three daughters, Mrs. Armin Ewald of R. 1, Manitowoc, Mrs. Robert Glaser of Valders and Mrs. Robert Lorfeld of Cleveland; one brother, Henry, of Cleveland; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Grossheusch of R. 3. Manitowoc and Mrs. Clarence Schienle of Milwaukee, and 28 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty, with the Rev. Samuel Kugler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Berge Funeral Home. Valders, from 3 p.m. today until 11 a.m. Tuesday and at the church from noon until the time of services
