Mrs. Albertina Behrens Dies At Paul Hilbert Home Saturday Evening

Mrs. Albertina Behrens passed away Saturday evening, August 23, at 8:45 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Hilpert, near Altona, aged 87 years, 11 months and 23 days. Despite many illnesses in her younger years, Mrs. Behrens had enjoyed fairly good health in later life. A few weeks ago she had pains in her side and back. Medical aid was sought and her case was diagnosed as an infected gall bladder. Due to her advanced years, an operation was thought inadvisable.

Funeral rites were conducted Tuesday, August 26 at 2:00 at the Paul Hilpert home and at 2:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church at Altona. Rev. Walter Brackensick of Wayne and the Sultzer Mortuary of Wisner were in charge. Prof. G. H. Hofius was organist. Interment followed in Trinity cemetery. Pallbearers were George Roggenbach, Ernest Greenwald, William Thies, Frank Roggenbach, Willie Lueken and Emil Reinhardt.

Albertina Carolina Behrens, nee Mohlfeld, was born at Meitze, Hanover, Germany, August 31, 1859, as one of a family of three children. In her infancy she was baptized into the Lutheran faith. She attended the Lutheran school at Meitze in her childhood days. There she was confirmed in 1873. She was married April 16, 1882 to Gus Behrens who preceded her in death in 1943.

In 1886, Mr. and Mrs. Behrens came to America settling in Illinois. Six months later they decided to go west and came to Washington County, Nebraska, locating near Hooper. Four years later, in 1890, they moved to Dixon County remaining there one year. The family then decided to locate on a farm in Cuming County in the vicinity of Altona. This place was there home until 1918 when the couple retired and moved to Norfolk. In 1921, Mr. and Mrs. Behrens bought a home in Altona where they lived until Mr. Behrens' death. Since 1943, Mrs. Behrens had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hilpert. Occasionally she went to Colorado to spend a few months with her son, Albert.

Mrs. Behrens leaves four children, Henne [Hennie], now Mrs. William Stuthmann of Wayne; Matilda, now Mrs. William Pflueger of Portland, Ore;, Amanda, now Mrs. Paul Hilpert of Wisner and Albert of Amherst, Colo. All are here. One daughter, Rosie the former Mrs. Carl Wolters, preceded her in death. Mrs. Behrens also leaves 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
