Ruth McGinnis East, 88, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007.

Ruth was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Nelson County, a daughter of the late William Govern McGinnis and Bessie Wood McGinnis.

She retired as a credit manager from Grand Piano Furniture Company. She was a faithful member of Heritage United Methodist Church, Mended Hearts and the Heritage United Methodist Lifelighters.

She is survived by her children, Arthur Wayne Williams of Ruckersville, Jacqueline W. Willard of Lynchburg, and Rebecca W. Long and husband, Richard, of Evington; a brother, R. Kelly McGinnis and wife, Kathleen, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; sisters, Pauline M. Christian of Madison Heights, Elizabeth M. Coates of Glouster, N.J., and Kathleen M. Poston and husband, Cecil, of Vero Beach, Fla.

She was predeceased by a son, William D. "Butch" Williams; two brothers, William G. McGinnis Jr. and Melvin P. McGinnis; and a son-in-law, John M. Willard.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Heritage United Methodist Church, and at other times at the home of her daughter, Rebecca, 308 Runner Stone Drive, Evington. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2007, at Heritage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Riley Smith and the Rev. David Nickels officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
