Merlin E. Long, 85, of Marinette, WI passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2008, at Bay Area Medical Center of Marinette, WI. He was born on August 24, 1923, to the late William and Claira (Evans) Long in Porterfield, WI.

Merlin attended area schools and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during WWII.

He married Marcella Belaire on August 23, 1947, in DePere, WI. She preceded him in death in March of 2001.

Merlin worked for Northern Propane for many years and also worked for Marinette Marine and retired from Interstate Welding. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.

Merlin is survived by daughters: Rose Ann (Frank) Sutterfield of Custer, SD; Diane Long of Marinette, WI; Lois (Gary) Walters of Marinette, WI; Nancy Long and Rebecca Long both of Green Bay, WI; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Marcella, a son Barry; three sisters: Cora Cherry, Ursula Cherry, and Vivian Philipps; two brothers: Mervin and Edward; and a grandson Matthew Barnes preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday, January 10, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
