..MOUNT VERNON - Lawrence D. Steinmetz, 84, of 19100 Hopewell Road died Sunday evening in his home after an extended illness.
.. Mr. Steinmetz was born Nov. 14, 1903 in Knox County to Clinton and Gertrude (Gorsuch) Steinmetz. He was a retired farmer and Carpenter. He was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church, and had served as Sundy School superintendent for many years. Mr. Steinmetz was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge at Gambier and was a 50-year member of Pleasant Grange. He was a retired Pleasant Township Clerk.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Edna (Butcher) Steinmetz; two daughters, (names and details omitted), two sons in Gambier, (names and details omitted), eight grandchildren; seven great-grandsons; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Wheaton and Mrs. Harold (Ila) Butcher, both of Mount Vernon, and Mrs. Helen Patterson of Gambier; and two brothers, Dale Steinmetz of Mt. Vernon and Richard Steinmetz of Huntington, W. Va.
.. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two brothers, Floyd and Robert Steinmetz; and a Grandchild.
.. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Dowds-Wiggins Funeral Home. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Robert Bloomquist officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery.
