Keyser, W.Va. — Charles B. Alt Jr., 85, of Rt. 6, Knobley Road, Keyser, W.Va., died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born on Aug. 20, 1926, at Antioch, W.Va., he was a son of the late Charles B. Alt Jr. and Etta (Shreve) Alt. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Aldridge, Beulah Staggs and Ruth Fazenbaker and four brothers, Benjamin, Ira, Dayton and Robert Alt.
Mr. Alt was retired as an electrician, craft trainer and foreman with the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company with 30 years of service. After his retirement, he worked for Caron East in Cumberland and also was an instructor in electronics at the Mineral County Vocational Technical Center for 1 1/2 years. He attended the Cabin Run Wesleyan Methodist Church, was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Boyce-Houser Post 41, American Legion, Keyser. Mr. Alt was one of the founders of the Fountain Volunteer Fire Department and was active in the early 1980's with the Mental Health Association of Mineral County. Chuck was an avid tinkerer and could fix practically anything.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Pauline F. (Dawson) Alt; one daughter, Sherry L. Alt, of Keyser; two sisters, Catherine Robertson, of Elkton, Va., and Mary Neff, of Hot Springs, Va.; sisters and brother-in-law, Elaine Alt, of Baltimore, Tina Alt, of Keyser and Jack Fazenbaker, of Westernport, and a large number of nieces and nephews, which include special ones, Diann Evans, and David Dawson and grandniece and nephew, LeAnn Evans and Danny Dawson.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Strawn officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
