Founding Partner of Firm Here Had Been Ill 10 Months
William E. Weaver, 69, founding partner of the Weaver and Gates store and prominent Shippensburg businessman, died at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at his Lurgan township farm home. He had been ill for about 10 months with complications.
Mr. Weaver was born January 30, 1871, son of the late A. F. Weaver and Mary Catherine Shoemaker Weaver. He was married to Miss Edith Wenger, who survives him.
Working as a youth in his father's tailoring shop, Mr. Weaver went into the clothing business in partnership with Frank Gates when he was 26 years old. The store opened September 3, 1897, in the room now occupied by Squires Music House, and was moved to its present location about 14 years ago. Mr. Weaver remained active in the firm until six years ago.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masonic lodge and the Vigilant Hose company.
Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Richard Weaver and Robert Weaver, both of Shippensburg, six sisters, Mrs. Fannie Wenger of Carlisle, Mrs. G. R. Fogelsonger and Mrs. William Weibley of town; Mrs. Martin Wolf and Mrs. William Benson of Baltimore, and Mrs. Helen Ulrick of York, and four brothers, Charles Weaver of York, Herbert of Carlisle, and Frank Weaver and Walter Weaver of town.
Private funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning at the M. Garfield Barbour funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. J. Wright; Burial will be in Spring Hill cemetery.
