Formerly Engaged in Lumber Business

Nelson K. Allman, for many years a well known Garrett contractor, died at 4:10 o'clock Monday morning at the age or eighty-two years at his home at 519 South Franklin street as the result of two paralytic strokes within the last ten days.

On July 26 Mr. Allman suffered his first stroke, which left his left side paralyzed. and the second stroke came Sunday at noon. He became unconscious Saturday. Mr. Allman had been ailing for the past three years, mostly as a result of his advanced age, but he had not had any recent serious illness until stricken by paralysis.

As a contractor Mr. Allman con-structed such buildings in Garrett as the city hall, the East Keyser school house, the first section of the hospital, the Patterson building and probably about a third of the houses in the city.

He was foreman of the B. & O. saw shop for a time more than thirty-five years ago and from 1900 to 1912 he was engaged in the lumber business at the site where the Stump Grain & Coal Co. is located. He retired five years ago.

Mr. Allman was born on June 28, 1853, at Cromwell and came to Garrett in 1882. He married Miss Alta Valleau at Cromwell in 1875. She died on Dec. 7, 1893, in Garrett and three years later he and Miss Martha Campbell of Kimmel, were married. She died Aug. 2 of last year.

Three children, all by the first wife, survive. They are Clyde Allman of Fort Wayne, A. L. Allman, who lived with his father, and Mrs. Bonnie Foster of Oakland, Calif. There also are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Allman was a member of the Masonic order.

Funeral services have been set for Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, with burial in Union cemetery. The Rev. H. C. Odell of the Baptist church will officiate. The body is being prepared for burial at the Iler funeral home and will be taken to the residence Tuesday morning.
