Mr. McSwain was a native of Spartanburg County, and was a son of the late Ed Willard and Dora Calvert McSwain. He was farmer and a member of Alverson Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Martha McSwain of Chesnee; step daughters, Nita Burrell and Vickie Hill of Tryon, NC; sons, Cecil McSwain and Guy McSwain of Chesnee; step-son, Thomas Dowda of Omaha, NE; sisters, Corrine Webb of Chesnee, Bonnie Owens of Inman, and Judy Baker of Rutherfordton, NC; brothers, Joe Hoyt McSwain of Raleigh, NC, Will McSwain and Nathan McSwain of Chesnee, and B. W. McSwain of Inman. Eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren also survive him.
Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Alverson Grove Baptist Church. Dr. Curtis Daniel, Rev. Ken Kirkley and Rev. David Kite will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
