Margaret (McGowan) Hall, Scotland Native, Dies at 85

Mrs. Margaret (McGowan) Hall, 85, widow of Austin B. Hall, died Tuesday at the Anna Jaques Hospital. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and was the daughter [of] Alexander and Mary (Courtney) McGowan.

Mrs. Hall spent most of her life in Newburyport. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the DeValera Circle, and the Daughters of Isabella.

She leaves five daughters, Mrs. Howard M. Adams of Newbury, Mrs. Charles A. Carroll, Mrs. Cornelius F. Shea, Mrs. Harold C. Tarbox, and Mrs. Dennis C. Finnegan, all of Newburyport, in addition to 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 8 in the Joseph L. McLaughlin Funeral Home, 55 Washington St., followed by a Requiem High Mass at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7-9 Wednesday, and 2-4 and 7-9 Thursday.
