Born in Lawrence, Feb. 28, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Austin B. and Margaret (McGowan) Hall and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1933.
Mrs. Shea had worked at Towle Manufacturing Co. for several years, and was a bookkeeper at Quality Shoe Store in Newburyport. She had also worked as a nurse's aide at the Anna Jaques Hospital as well as providing care for many patients privately. An active member of the community, Mrs. Shea had served as secretary of the Newburyport High School Alumni Association for many years, and was an active volunteer for the Friends of the Library, the YWCA and the American Red Cross Chapter in Newburyport. Additionally she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Golden Age Club.
Her survivors include her son, Neil F. Shea, and wife Jean D., of Newburyport; a son-in-law, James Gaines; six grandchildren; two sisters, Winnifred Carroll and Edna Finnegan, both of Newburyport; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Marjorie Gaines, and the sister of the late Agnes Tarbox and Margaret Adams.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Green Street.
Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery will be private.
Calling hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Homes, 35 Green St., will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of the Library, 94 State St., Newburyport, Mass. 01950.
