M. Fagan Dead
Michael Fagan, one of the oldest residents of this community passed to the great beyond, after a few weeks illness at his home in this city, Monday evening, April 23rd.Mr. Fagan came to Reading in 1868 and settled on a farm a half mile north of town which was still his property at the time of his death. On Feb. 16, 1870 he was married to Miss Katie Rourke and they made their home on the farm north of town until a few years ago when they moved to town. Mrs. Fagan died in December 1902. Mike Fagan was the father of seven children, all of whom remain to mourn his loss. The deceased was born in Ireland Dec. 24, 1842, came to this country in 1863 and made his home in New York state until 1868 when he came to Kansas. He was industrious and that unrestfullness that always hovers over a busy man after he retires from active work, was ever noticeable after Mike Fagan moved to town. He used to say "I will never get used to loafing." The funeral was held from the Catholic church Thursday morning, April 26th, Rev. Willibrord officiating. It was a large funeral attended by his scores of friends who wished to pay their last respects to an old settler and good citizen. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. All of his children were here to attend the funeral. The Recorder joins the many friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones.
