Jonathan Richard Bassett married Mary Jane House on 14 Oct 1855 in Tallapoosa, Alabama, after she died he married her sister Ann House. Jonathan and Mary Jane moved to Arkansas and first opened a farm in Columbia County on the Arkansas/Louisiana border.
J.R. Bassett served two years in the Civil War then moved to Drew County and opened another farm. In 1868 he and a brother-in-law in law (married to sisters Mary and Rachel House), brought their families to Sebastion County near Greenwood. Here he opened his third farm.
