Gilbert Spaulding Services are Held

Gilbert Aaron Spaulding, better known as Joe, age 65, died Wednesday, December 31, 1980 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital.

Joe, the son of Dana and Nellie Meyers Spaulding, was born in Beardsley, Kansas October 1, 1915. In 1920 he moved to Casa, Wyoming with his parents to homestead. He attended Glendo High School, graduating in 1932. After graduation he worked on road construction, building Highway 87 from Wheatland to Glendo. He then worked for various ranchers in the Casa area, before going to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1942 he entered the Navy serving during WW II. After being discharged from the Navy in 1945 he leased a ranch near Orin Junction and remained in the area until 1965. In 1965 he bought a ranch near Casa and remained on that ranch until he sold it in the spring of 1980. He has resided on his parents home place since 1975 until the time of his death. As a young man he broke horses to help the family make ends meet.

He is survived by his brother, Hugh M., of North Hollywood, Ca.; 3 sisters: Elva Collins of Glendo, Mary Ann Lindeen of Anchorage, Alaska, and June Emerson of Casper; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Walter, John, Dana L. Jr. "Moose", Gene and Richard.

Funeral services were held at the Glendo Community Church Monday, January 5, 1981 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in the Wheatland Cemetery with the Glendo American Legion Post conducting military graveside rites. Daniel D. Barcus officiated the services.

Serving as pallbearers: Homer Trimble, Bill Baxter, Herbie Johnson, Leo Johnson, Bill Goddard, and George "Crip" Collins, Jr.

Serving as honorary pallbearers: Albert "Coop" Waters, Stanley Hooley, Bill Johnson, Jack Jones, W. L. "Buck" Haggerty, Dan Brown and George Cundall.

A memorial has been established to the Glendo Community Church. The Schrader-Prell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
