Catharine Ann Wagner was the daughter of George & Christiana (Heisler) Wagner.

She married John S. Jewell on 08 June 1848 in Athens Co., OH. They had 11 children, all born in OH:

- Laura Jane Jewell Applebee (1850-1936)
- Mary Jewell McGrath (1852-1905)
- Emma K. Jewell Shaner Hill (1854-1935)
- James B. Jewell (1854-1938)
- George W. Jewell (1859-1941)
- William Jewell Sr.(1861-1935)
- John Sherman Jewell (1866-1928)
- Anna M. Jewell Kinder (1867-1945)
- Etta C. Jewell Frazier (1870-1946)
- Charles Clarence Jewell (1873-1957)
- Amanda Jewell Stedman Williams (1876-1967)

Catharine was confined to a wheelchair during the latter part of her life. Her grandson, Thomas Jewell, often stayed with her to help. Her daughter, Amanda, and her husband, George, lived with Catharine, and also provided assistance.

Death of A Pioneer
Mrs. Catherine Jewell passed away Sunday morning at 10:00 o'clock at the old homestead on the pike between this city and Bishopville. Mrs. Jewell was 88 years of age May 28 last, and for several years had been practically helpless. Her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Williams, resided with her and gave the aged lady every care and attention.

She was one of the pioneer residents of Morgan County and had resided in the house where she died for over half a century. Mrs. Jewell was the mother of eleven children, all of whom survive her but one, Mrs. Mary McGrath, who died in Missouri over nine years ago. Two of the children, James and Charles, reside in this city. Mrs. Jewell is also survived by 37 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at the Church of Christ at Bishopville, Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by J. A. Goddard of this city and interment was made in the Bishopville Cemetery.
