Gertrude Brummel, 92, died Monday, December 3, at Valley Manor, Rock Valley.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery, Hull, before the service Thursday.

Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers memorialsmay be directed to Rock Valley Christian School.

Mrs. Brummel was born November 19, 1915, to Ed and Henrietta (Vis) Dykstra in Hull. She attended Perkins School.

Gertrude married Albert Brummel on February 9, 1938, in Perkins. They moved south of Rock Valley in 1941. He died February 17, 1952.

After her kids left home, she worked at Hull Pharmacy for 15 years. She moved to Rock Valley in 1970 and then to Valley Manor in March of 1999.

She was active in ladies' societygroups at Calvin Christian Reformed Church and Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, reading, shopping, traveling and watching her grandchildren play baseball.

She is survived by her sons, Andrew (Marilyn) Brummel of North English, Edwin (Natalie) Brummel of Sioux Center and Larry (Maria) Brummel of McGregory; daughter, Aletta (Duane) Vande Griend of Hull; 22 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Dick (Ann) Dykstra and Arthur (Eldoris) Dykstra, all of Hull, and Harry (Lorie) Dykstra of Canton, South Dakota; sister, Stella Hoekstra of Sheldon; sisters-in-law, Jennie Dykstra of of Rock Valley and Grace H. Dykstra of Hull.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Helaine Kay; an infant granddaughter; an infant brother; two infant sisters; brothers Herm and Pete Dykstra; and sisters, Ena Dykstra and Jeanette Stienstra.
