Joseph Frank Slemmer, 63, of Edwardsville Rotue 1 died at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Firmin Desloge Hospital, St. Louis.
A laborer for 28 years, Mr. Slemmer was a member of Common Laborers, Hodcarriers and Building Trades Local 179, Edwardsville, and also a member of the Leclaire Christian church.
Son of the late Frank and Anna Slemmer, he was born June 15, 1896 in Glen Carbon. He was married Nov. 10, 1945 in Edwardsville to Wava Zilibotti, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, Wilbur J. Slemmer, Edwardsville; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Bowles, Marine; three step-children, Ova and Guy Zilibotti, and Ann Zilibotti Slemmer; two brothers, Oliver Slemmer and Leon Erlich, both of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Zajicek, Edwardsville, Mrs. Beatrice Trebing, Granite City, and Mrs. Christine Hearne, Maryville; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son Harold, who died Dec. 26, 1960 and a sister.
Friends may call at the Straube funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday until the final rites Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ed Armstrong, pastor of the Leclaire Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Buck Rd. cemetery.
