Police Sergeant Stanley E. Cherney, 56, of 3006 Coolidge Place, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Dec. 17, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Resurrection will be concelebrated by the Rev. Philip Hoffmann and the Rev. Earl Brouchoud and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Cherney was born Aug. 24, 1926, at Oconto, Wis., son of the late Emil and Julia Brouchoud Cherney. He married Deloris Stern July 1, 1950, at Manitowoc. He entered the Manitowoc Police Department July 1, 1951. He was promoted to detective Jan. 18, 1962, and to sergeant Jan. 15, 1978. He had a total of 30 years of service with the Manitowoc Police Department. Mr. Cherney was a member of Wisconsin Professional Police Association. He was a veteran, serving in the United State Army in World War II, and was a charter member of Amvet Post No. 23, of Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife, Deloris; two sons, David and Bruce of Manitowoc; three brothers, Vincent Cherney and Ray Cherney of Green Bay, and Richard Cherney Sr. of Manitowoc; three sisters, Mrs. Ray (Olive) Jackson and Mrs. Dave (Fern) Roseff of Manitowoc, and Mrs. Ruby Priebe of Neenah; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Genevieve and George Stern of Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home from 4 o'clock to 9 o'clock this Friday afternoon where a prayer service will be at 8 o'clock.
