Emil C. Schroeder, 80? (photo), retired painter and wood finisher of the
Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, died early Thursday evening after a short
illness at his home, 729 N. Ninth St., Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Mittnacht Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. D. L.
Krembs will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Schroeder was born May 30, 1867, at Manitowoc, son of the late Ernst
and Fredricka Graeger Schroeder. As a young man he was employed by the
American Seating Co. He served as sexton at Evergreen Cemetery 12 years,
was employed 10 years by Manitowoc Building Supply Co. and was a crane
operator at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., until 1932. At that time he took
employment with Pere Marquette Railway and later with the C & O at Ludington,
Mich., where he was in charge of painting and wood finishing on boats of the
line. He retired in 1947.
Mr. Schroeder married Louise Maier April 21, 1891, and the couple celebrated
its 66th wedding anniversary this year.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. ____ ___ and Mrs. Jake Kent of
Manitowoc; two sons, George of Manitowoc Rapids and Leo A. of Sheboygan;
seven grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. A son, Martin, died in 1943.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Sunday where the rosary
will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
