Edgar (Griff) Griffiths, 77, of the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, died
Thursday at the Mercy Center, Dallas. Born June 9, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Bert and Lillian Doe Griffiths.
He was a 1940 graduate of Coughlin High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. In 1978, after 30 years of service, he retired from the Wilkes-Barre city Police Force. He was also employed by American Stores Company (Acme) as a store manager.
He was past commander of American Legion Post 132 and treasurer of the Home Association for Post 132.
He was a member of the First Welsh Presbyterian Church, corner of South Meade and East Northampton Streets.
He and his wife, Harriet Ponting Griffiths, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on June 9.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Dylis and Lillian; and brother, Louise.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Dr. Gilbert, Dallas; Thomas, Minnesota; daughter, Ruth Ann Pintchuck, Plymouth; grandchildren, Barry, Thomas, Raymond and Julia; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the John J. Straub Funeral Home, 55 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. George Johnson officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville, Kingston Township.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Welsh Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
