She was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Centralia, to Wayland S. and Florence E.
Domer Shoemaker. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1934 and
attended Kansas State College in Manhattan for two years. She was a
substitute teacher at schools in Centralia and Frankfort. She had been a
volunteer at Eastridge Care Home in Centralia.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Centralia and United
Methodist Women. She had been a Sunday school and vacation Bible school
teacher at the church. She was a member of the Reading Circle, Tuesday
Bridge Club, Stitch and Chatter Club, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, and Sunshine
Club, all in Centralia.
She married Russell F. Allen on Nov. 15, 1936, in Centralia. He survives.
Other survivors include three sons, David R. Allen, Pine Haven, Wyo., and
Richard L. "Rick" Allen and Greg W. Allen, both in Centralia; two daughters,
Joy D. Polson, Clay Center, and Judy J. Byrne, Gardner; 14 grandchildren;
and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in
Centralia. Burial will be at Centralia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7
to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home in Centralia.
