Mrs. Clara Ann Chandler, 78, widow of the late Alvin Chandler, Blacksmith, died at 10 o'clock, Monday [10 Sep 1934] evening at the family home, 520 east Water Street. Her death was due to a heart attack after an illness of three weeks with encephalitis. Her heat affliction weakened her condition to such an extent that she was unable to withstand the complications of influenza infection.
Funeral services will be held from the home at 10:30 o'clock Thursday [13 Sep 1934] morning, in charge of the Rev. H. A. P. Homer, pastor of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Chandler was a member of that church. Burial will be made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.

Mrs. Clara Ann Chandler, 78, widow of the late Alvin Chandler, well known Harford City blacksmith, died Monday night about ten o'clock at her home, 520 E. Eater St., following a three week illness. Death was due to heart disease, which developed after an illness of encephalitis. Her condition had been serious a week ago but during the past few days seemed improved.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Chandler home, Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock. The Rev. R. A. P. Homer, pastor of Grace Episcopal Church, will be in charge. Burial will be made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
Mrs. Chandler was a member of Grace Church. Despite her advanced age, she was active until her recent illness. Her life had been one filled with religious ideals and she was endeared to many who will be saddened to learn of her death. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge here.
Mrs. Chandler was born in Muncie, the daughter of Henry and Emmaline Rowe. Her family, pioneers of that city, resided where the Rivoli theater is now located. When she was twelve years of age, her mother died and she came to this city to reside with Mrs. Kate Cooley. She later went to live with her father in Ohio.
After a few years there, her father moved to the western states and the daughter returned to Hartford City to make her home with Mrs. Ann Campbell, mother of E.C. Campbell of this city.
About 55 years ago, she was married to Alvin Chandler, at the Campbell home. After their marriage, they moved to Montpelier, where they resided a few years, returning at the end of that time to Hartford City where they spent the remainder of their lives. They first lived in E. Water St., about one block west of their present home. In 1892, Mr. Chandler built the present Chandler home at 520 W. Water St. where the family has since resided. Mr. Chandler died there Oct. 21, 1925. Mr. Chandler was well known here having conducted a blacksmith shop and wagon building establishment for a number of years.
Mr. and Mrs. Chandler were the parents of seven children. One son Charles, died in infancy. Surviving are: Miss Edith Chandler, teacher at the William Reed School. Jay Chandler, at home, Miss Jennie Chandler and Miss Ruth Chandler, employees of the Ervin Co. store here, William Chandler of Oshkosh, Wis., and Mrs. Ray Ketterman of Shideler. Four grandchildren also survive. They are: Lois and Roger Chandler of Oshkosh and Eloise and Mary Jean Ketterman of Shideler. A brother of Mrs. Chandler, Harry A. Rowe, survives in Denver, Colorado.
Mrs. Chandler's remains are being prepared for burial at Burk and Fennig funeral home and will be removed from there to the home to await the hour of funeral service.
