Bertha was the daughter of Lucius and Margaret Grissenger Boughton. She married William C. Blystone on 21 June 1916 in Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan. She was his second wife. They had no children. Bertha had a high school education and had been a teacher in public schools. She died from chronic myocarditis at the age of 88 years 6 months and 24 days.
