Dean Thomas Cuppett, 84 of Washington D.C. died at the Armed Forces Retirement Home on April 3, 2011. He is survived by his six children, Candace Payne, Joyce Miller, Reid Cuppett, Gary Cuppett, Gregory Cuppett, and Amy Stiverson; his sisters, Sara Griffith and Helen Pfaff. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
With a true servant's heart, Dean loved his family very much...his last words were, "I am proud to be your father."
A memorial service will be held at the Armed Forces Retirement Home "The Historic Chapel", 3700 N. Capitol St. NW, Washington D.C. 20011 on Saturday, April 9th, 2011 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Cuppett Cemetery in New Paris, PA at 4:00pm on Saturday, April 9th, 2011. Arrangements entrusted into the care of A Dignified Funeral and Cremation Service, Triangle, VA.

Dean was born at home in Dale with his Grandmother Blackburn as midwife. He grew up with his siblings in Dale and graduated from Dale High School in 1944. Dean enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 10, 1944 and became a TEC-5. He served at Camps Shanks and Kilmer and Fort Meade and in England, France, and Germany. Dean was wounded at Ludwigshaven, Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was discharged from military service on August 11, 1946.
Dean was initially employed by R. M. Straub Grocery owned by his father-in-law, and he and Alzine and their children lived in the Hornerstown neighborhood of Johnstown, PA. In the mid 1950s Dean went into government service, and the Cuppetts moved to Virginia. Dean retired from the Central Intelligence Agency. -- MKeaton
