Served in the Army Signal Corps in the European Theater of Operations from January 6, 1943 to October 17, 1945 and was at Normandy two days after D-Day. Active member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren. Like his father, John retired as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.
